Yes! A properly designed and installed solar heating system can heat your pool to comfortable swimming temperatures as gas or electrical systems, but without the higher costs or dependence on less green technology.
Most systems are completely automatic and are as easy or easier to use than traditional systems that run on fossil fuels.
The heater uses a pump that circulates water through a filter and solar collectors where the water is warmed by the sun. This heated water flows back into the pool or spa until the water reaches a comfortable temperature designated by you. When it reaches this temperature water bypasses the collectors and is filtered directly back into the pool.
The cost of heating your pool with the sun is free, since this is an abundant natural resource in Southern California.
Designing a system that fits your specific needs is determined by what size pool you want to heat, how long you want to be able to swim comfortably throughout the year, the wind and humidity in your area, and where we can best position your solar collectors.
Of course, but there are extra requirements if you plan to use your hot tub when the sun is not out. A backup gas or electric heater will be necessary to heat the spa the extra few degrees to keep your hot tub as hot as you need it, yet this backup will not run continuously so you still save money on your electricity bills.
Solar Heating Specialists has been in the business since 1977 and we have seen systems that we installed in the beginning that are still working today. In addition, we have some of the longest warranties in the business. You can expect an average system to last for about 20 years.
